Cascade School District #422: Creating Positive School Culture — $25,000
In response to student need, the Cascade School District has embarked on a mission to transform school culture by engaging families to create better mental health outcomes and ensure long lasting change. This grant will fund social emotional learning programs, facilitator costs and engagement programs to benefit all 230 K-12th grade students.
Desert Sage Health Centers: A Project to Reduce Rural Healthcare Barriers by Providing Transportation for Patients Requiring Care in Boise — $59,642
Providing reliable, consistent transportation for medical care can remove barriers to life-saving healthcare. Purchase of a wheelchair-accessible mini-van will facilitate the transport of patients from Glenns Ferry to Boise for life-saving medical treatments, visits, and specialist appointments. Prominently displayed logos on the van will promote use and increase awareness.
Hacker Middle School: Hacker Middle School Fitness Playground — $60,000
Hacker Middle School’s Burke Elevate Fitness Course will serve the community in three ways: as playground climbing equipment for the general student population, as a tool to be integrated into the school’s physical education curriculum, and as a free option, after school hours, for the community to improve its fitness.
International Rescue Committee: Spark – Vocational English as a Second Language (VESL) Program — $30,000
Spark promotes economic self-sufficiency for refugees with the highest barriers to employment through language, literacy, and math skills education. This grant will fund the delivery of a vocational English as a second language (VESL) class that integrates English instruction with financial literacy, job readiness, and social wellness curriculum and activities.
Learning Lab, Inc: Education through Community Partnerships— $27,275
In partnership with the Boise School District Community Schools, the Learning Lab will provide high-quality family literacy classes at two Community School locations. A professional educator from Learning Lab will work with parents on important basic skills, including English language, reading, writing and math in conjunction with Boise School District staff working with preschool children on essential literacy and developmental milestones.
Opera Idaho: Opera Idaho Van for School Outreach Programs — $30,000
Opera Idaho’s education outreach programs bring free opera performances to elementary schools in the Treasure Valley and surrounding areas, reaching over 20,000 children annually. This grant will fund a van for transporting artists, instruments, costumes and sets to schools, as well as locations for community outreach performances to increase the number of schools and expand the areas of the state they are able to reach.
Payette Children’s Forest: The Birds & the Bees + Bats & Butterflies! — $30,000
In addition to enhancing populations of long billed curlews, monarchs, bees and bats, this project will connect area schools to each other, foster youth conservation leadership, and give students the tools to make sound stewardship decisions. More than 400 rural youth in Adams, Valley and Washington Counties will engage in this ongoing place-based outdoor education per year.
Step Ahead Idaho: College Readiness Summer Program — $30,000
This grant will help reach students who believe in perceived barriers against attending college by providing education in topics including Financial Aid Literacy, Test Prep, and Career & College Exploration. It will finish outfitting the new Hillcrest College Advising Center and support the pilot and expansion of free summer programming focused on college-going topics for rising juniors and seniors in area high schools.
